When Someone Else Gets What You Wanted
I said congratulations and I meant it.
I also went home and felt something I was not proud of.
Somebody I care about got the exact thing I had been praying about for a long time. And I was happy for them. That part was real, not performed. But underneath the happy there was something else just sitting there, heavier and quieter, and it sounded a lot like why them and not me.
Then came the second wave, which honestly felt worse. The guilt about feeling it at all. What kind of person resents a good thing happening to someone they love? What kind of faith is that?
If you have never been there, this one is not for you. But I do not think that is most of us.
Somebody got the baby. The house. The healing. The engagement. The offer. The thing you have been asking God about for years, and they got it seemingly without having to ask as long or wait as long or hurt as much. And you smiled and hugged them and meant it, and then you sat in your car afterward feeling like a fraud.
So let me say this first…that feeling does not make you a bad person or a bad Christian. It makes you someone who wanted something badly. Grief and gladness can occupy the same room. The ache is not evidence that your love for them is fake. It is evidence that your longing is real.
What matters is what you do with it next.
Because there are two paths that can come from that moment. One of them is bitterness, and it is the easier road. Bitterness starts quietly. A little distance. A little less enthusiasm. A slow pulling back from someone whose joy has become uncomfortable to be near. And over time it hardens into something that damages the relationship and does absolutely nothing to bring you closer to what you wanted.
The other path is honesty. And it starts with God, and has nothing to do with them.
Tell Him the whole thing. Not the polished version. God, I am glad for them and I am hurting and I do not fully understand why the answer came for them and not for me. That prayer is not disrespectful. Scripture is full of people asking God why, and He never once struck them down for it. He can handle your disappointment. What He cannot work with is the version you refuse to bring Him.
And then, remember this...their answered prayer did not use up yours.
That is the lie underneath the sting, isn't it? That there is a limited supply. That every yes handed to someone else is a no quietly assigned to you. But God is not running low. Their blessing was not subtracted from your account. Galatians 6:9 says "So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."
At just the right time. Not their time. Yours.
So today, if you are carrying that specific ache, bring it to God honestly. Then go be genuinely happy for them, not as a performance, but as a choice. Celebrating someone else's yes does not delay your own. It just keeps your heart soft while you wait for it.
Much love and blessings,
Ramzi

Where This Meets Real Life:
Family
Watching a sibling or relative get what you have wanted can quietly poison family relationships. Name it before God so it does not grow roots at the dinner table.
Relationships
If you have been pulling away from someone because their joy is hard to be around, that distance will cost you more than the honesty would. Stay close.
Mental Health
Comparison plus longing is a heavy mix. Be gentle with yourself about the feeling, and talk to someone if it is sitting on you longer than it should.
Finances
Watching others get ahead financially while you are stuck is genuinely discouraging. Their timeline is not a verdict on yours.
Physical Health
Seeing someone else get the healing or the results you have been working toward stings. Keep going. Your progress is still yours.
Closing thoughts…
Their answered prayer didn't use up yours. God isn't running low.
…and now lets end in prayer!🙏
Lord, You know exactly what I have been asking You for and You know what it felt like to watch someone else receive it. Thank You that I can bring You the honest version of this. Keep my heart soft instead of bitter. Help me celebrate them genuinely while I keep trusting You with my own waiting. I believe You have not forgotten me. Amen.
