The Strong One
Somebody asked me how I was doing a while back and I gave the answer I always give.
Good. Busy, but good. Then I flipped it around and asked about them, because that is the move, right? Keep it moving. Stay on the asking side of the conversation where it is comfortable.
I did not even notice I had done it until later.
If you are the strong one in your circle, you know exactly what I mean. You are the person people call. The one who shows up when somebody needs help moving, needs a ride, needs to talk at eleven at night. You have gotten very good at holding things for other people.
And somewhere along the way, nobody started asking about you. Not because they do not care. Because you made it look easy. You built a reputation for being fine and now everyone operates on that assumption, including you.
Nobody warns the dependable people about this part….you can carry a lot for a long time and still hit a wall, and the wall comes faster when nobody knows you are close to it.
Moses hit that wall. He was leading an entire nation and judging every dispute among them, from sunup to sundown, by himself. And his father-in-law watched him do it for one day and said something I think about often. “This is not good! You’re going to wear yourself out, and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.”
Not good. That is a blunt assessment of a man doing holy work.
And notice he did not tell Moses to try harder or pray more about it. He told him to get help. To share the load with other capable people. The solution to being overwhelmed was not more endurance. It was other people.
Galatians 6:2 says “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”
Share. That is a two-direction word. And a lot of us have been running it one way for years, which is not obedience to that verse. It is half of it.
I think the part that keeps us stuck is that letting someone carry something for us feels like a failure of the role. If I am the strong one, then needing help means I am not that anymore. So we hold it. We stay on the asking side. We answer good, busy but good, and we mean it as a kindness to the other person, like our stuff would be an imposition.
But here is what I have started to realize. When you never let anyone in, you are not just protecting them. You are also denying them something. The people who love you want to show up for you too, and you have quietly taken that off the table.
So here is the whole thing for today. Tell one person the real answer.
Not everyone. One. Somebody who has earned it. When they ask how you are doing this week, resist the reflex. Take the extra three seconds and say the honest version instead.
You have carried a lot of people. Let somebody carry a little of you.
Much love and blessings,
Ramzi

Where This Meets Real Life:
Family
Being the stable one at home does not mean being the one who never needs anything. Let your people see you human sometimes.
Relationships
If every friendship runs one direction, that is worth looking at. Real friendship has to be able to hold your weight too.
Mental Health
The strong ones often get help last because nobody saw it coming. If you have been running empty for a long stretch, talk to someone. That is wisdom, not weakness.
Finances
Carrying financial pressure silently is exhausting and isolating. Telling one trusted person does not fix the number, but it lightens what you are hauling.
Physical Health
You will take your kid to the doctor in a heartbeat and put off your own appointment for a year. Go make the call.
Closing thoughts…
You’ve carried a lot of people. Let somebody carry a little of you.
…and now lets end in prayer!🙏
Lord, You know how much I hold and how rarely I set it down. Help me stop pretending I am fine when I am not. Give me the humility to let someone in and the courage to say the honest thing. Thank You that I was never meant to carry this alone. Amen.
