The First Step Is the Whole Ask
I almost did not post it.
I had written something. Nothing polished, just a few honest thoughts about God that had been sitting in me, and I had typed them out mostly for myself. And then I sat there with my thumb hovering over the button the way you do when you are about to do something that feels bigger than it looks.
Because I knew what was going to happen. People I knew were going to see it. People who had known the older version of me, the one who was not exactly walking around talking about Jesus. And some part of my brain was already running the commentary. Who do you think you are? You are not qualified for this. You barely have your own faith figured out and you are going to post about God?
Every bit of that was true, by the way. I was not qualified. I did not have it figured out.
I posted it anyway.
And I had absolutely no idea that one post was the first step toward anything. I was not building something. I had no plan. I just took one small step in a direction I felt God nudging me toward and left the rest alone.
For the longest time before that, I genuinely did not know where to start with God. I wanted to be closer to Him. I was tired of sitting on the sideline. But I kept waiting until I felt equipped, until I knew more, until I had cleaned some things up and could approach Him looking a little more like someone who belonged there.
Then Hebrews 11:1 landed differently than it ever had before. “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
Evidence of things we cannot see.
Not things we have mapped out. Not things we understand. Faith is, by its own definition, acting on something before you can see where it leads. Which means waiting until you can see it is not a more responsible version of faith. It is the absence of it.
That took a lot of pressure off me, honestly. Because I thought following God required a vision for my life. A clear sense of calling. Some kind of plan I was supposed to receive and then execute. And He was never asking me for any of that. He was asking for one step.
Think about how He actually works with people in scripture. He tells Abraham to go, and does not tell him where. He tells the disciples to follow Him, and that is the whole invitation. No job description. No five year outlook. Just come, and I will show you the next part when you get there.
He has never once handed somebody the entire path up front. I think He knows us too well for that. If we could see the whole thing, we would either run from it or try to manage it ourselves, and both of those would cost us the relationship He is actually after.
So if you are sitting there wanting to get closer to God and feeling completely unequipped for it, you are in better company than you think. The feeling of not being ready is almost universal and it has almost never been the real obstacle.
The obstacle is waiting for a certainty He never promised.
Just take the step. Tell Him you believe, even if your believing is shaky and full of questions. Open the Bible even if you do not know where to start. Say the clumsy prayer. Send the text to the person you have been meaning to check on. Go to the thing you have been avoiding going to.
He increases your faith from there. That is His part. Yours is just the first move.
I look back at that post now and it is almost funny how small it was. A few sentences on a screen. But it was the first baby step, and every single thing that has come since traces back to a moment where I had no idea what I was doing and did it anyway.
You do not need to see the whole path. You never did.
Keep your eyes on Jesus and keep going.
Much love and blessings,
Ramzi

Where This Meets Real Life:
Family
If you have been wanting to lead your family spiritually but feel unqualified, start small. Pray over dinner. Say one honest thing about your faith out loud. They do not need an expert, they need you going first.
Relationships
The conversation about faith you have been putting off with a friend does not require you to have all the answers. “I do not have this figured out either” is a great place to start.
Mental Health
Feeling unequipped can keep people frozen for years. Give yourself permission to begin badly. Starting imperfectly beats waiting indefinitely.
Finances
The same logic applies to money. You do not need the full plan before the first step. One small act of obedience with what you have now is enough to start.
Physical Health
Nobody ever got healthy by waiting until they felt ready. Take the small step today and let the next one show up when you get there.
Closing thoughts…
Faith is acting before you can see. Waiting until you can see isn’t faith, it’s just waiting.
…and now lets end in prayer!🙏
Lord, I have spent a lot of time waiting until I felt ready for something You never asked me to be ready for. Give me the courage to take the step in front of me even when I cannot see where it goes. Increase my faith as I go. I am trusting You with the rest of the path. Amen.
