Good Things Are Still Coming
Something good happened a while back and my first reaction was suspicion.
That is not an exaggeration. Genuinely good news landed in my lap and instead of enjoying it, some part of my brain immediately started looking for the catch. Waiting for the other shoe. Running the odds on how this was going to fall apart later.
It took me a second to notice what I was doing. And when I did, it bothered me. Because at some point, without deciding to, I had started living braced.
That happens after a hard stretch. You go through enough seasons where the news is bad, where the thing you hoped for fell through, where you let yourself get excited and then paid for it, and eventually your system adapts. You stop expecting good things as a form of self-protection. If you never hope, you can never be disappointed. It feels like wisdom. It is actually just a slow flinch you never came out of.
And I think a lot of people are living exactly there right now and would not describe it that way.
You would not say you have given up on good things. You would say you are being realistic. Managing expectations. Not getting your hopes up. But underneath the language, there is a quiet belief that has settled in, and it sounds something like this: the good part of my life already happened, and what is left is just getting through.
That is not realism. That is a lie that has learned to sound reasonable.
Jeremiah 29:11 gets quoted so often that it has almost lost its depth, so I want you to hear where it came from. God speaks it to people in exile. Not to people in a good season being told to expect more good. To people who had lost their homeland, watched their city burn, and were living in a place they did not choose with no clear way back.
That is who He says this to. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
A future and a hope. Spoken over people who had every reason to believe their best days were behind them.
That is the thing about God. He does not operate on the trajectory you are currently on. Your last five years are not a reliable forecast of your next five, because He is not bound by the pattern. He has a documented habit of showing up in the exact chapter where everyone assumed the story was over.
And here is what I want you to consider. Hope is not naive. It is actually the harder, braver posture. Cynicism is easy. Cynicism protects you and costs you nothing upfront and lets you feel smart while you are doing it. Hope requires you to stay open, which means staying vulnerable, which means risking the disappointment you have worked hard to avoid.
But hope is also the only posture that lets you actually receive anything.
Because here is the cost of living braced. You do not just block the bad. You block the good too. The same guard that keeps you from being hurt keeps you from being blessed, or at least from noticing when you are. Good things arrive and you cannot enjoy them because you are busy scanning for what comes next. Answered prayers show up and get filed under temporary. You end up living through good seasons without ever being present for them.
That is not protection. That is just a different kind of loss.
So here is what I can tell you today, and I want you to actually let it land instead of deflecting it.
Good things are still coming for you.
Not as a guarantee that life gets easy, because that was never promised to anyone. But the God who has a future and a hope for you has not changed His mind, and the hard stretch you have been in is not evidence that He did. Your story is not over. The good parts are not all behind you. He is still writing, and He has never once been limited by how the previous chapter ended.
You are allowed to expect something good again. You are allowed to unclench. You are allowed to want things and hope for things and let yourself be excited without immediately bracing for the correction.
Let yourself hope again. It is not foolish. It is faith.
Much love and blessings,
Ramzi

Where This Meets Real Life:
Family
If a hard season has your household walking on eggshells, be the one who names something to look forward to. Hope is contagious in a home, and so is bracing.
Relationships
Getting burned makes people guard themselves in every relationship after. Do not let one person's failure set the ceiling for everyone who comes next.
Mental Health
Expecting the worst can be a protective habit your mind built for good reasons. Be gentle with yourself about it, and if the heaviness does not lift, a counselor can genuinely help you work through it.
Finances
A rough financial stretch can convince you that things will always be tight. Keep taking wise steps and leave room to believe the situation can actually change.
Physical Health
If your body has let you down, it is easy to stop hoping for better days. Keep caring for it anyway. Improvement is often slower than we want and more possible than we think.
Closing thoughts…
Your last five years are not a forecast. God isn't bound by the pattern.
…and now lets end in prayer!🙏
Lord, I have been bracing for so long that I forgot how to expect good things. Forgive me for letting hard seasons convince me that You were finished being good to me. Help me unclench. Give me the courage to hope again, and let me actually be present for the good things You send instead of waiting for them to fall apart. I trust that my story is not over. Amen.
