Don't Borrow Tomorrow's Trouble

The troubles of tomorrow tend to arrive in my head before I have even had a chance to deal with the troubles of today.

Satan, yet again, living in my head rent free. As sarcastic as that sounds, I do it more often than I would like to admit. And honestly, half the time I do not even need his help. I am fully capable of digging up my own worries and anxieties to keep my mind occupied all on my own.

Here is the pattern I catch myself in. I am already carrying everything today handed me. The full weight of it. And instead of stopping there, I reach back and try to strap tomorrow's problems onto my shoulders too. Problems that have not even happened yet. Problems that might never happen at all. As if I do not have enough to deal with right now, I go ahead and pre-load a day that is not even here.

Maybe you know the feeling.

The thing is, God never asked us to carry any of it, let alone all of it at once. He asked us to leave it at His feet. And I mean truly leave it there. Not the version where you set it down for a few minutes and then quietly pick it right back up the second you start to feel anxious again. The real kind. Hands open. Walking away.

That part is harder than it sounds, because it requires something most of us struggle with. Trust in His timing.

We say we trust God to take care of it. We believe He will. But underneath that, a lot of us are holding a stopwatch. We want it handled, sure, but we want it handled on our schedule. Resolved by our deadline. Fixed in the window of time we decided was reasonable. And when His timing does not match ours, we panic and snatch the worry right back off the floor.

But what if the delay is part of the point?

God knows exactly what is keeping you up at night. He knows the worry, the trouble, the thing playing on a loop in your mind at 2am. And sometimes He may be delaying the resolution not to frustrate you, but to grow you. To teach you a kind of trust you can only learn in the waiting. The faith that says I do not have the answer yet and I am choosing to trust You anyway is a faith that only gets built when the answer has not come.

Jesus said it as plainly as it can be said in Matthew 6:34. "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today."

Read that last line again. Today's trouble is enough for today. He is not being dismissive of your worries. He is being merciful. He is essentially saying you only have the grace for today's load, so stop trying to carry a day you have not been given the grace for yet. Tomorrow will come with its own challenges, and when it does, His mercy will be right there waiting to meet you in it.

But that grace is for tomorrow. It is not available today, because you do not need it today.

So whatever is troubling your heart and crowding your mind right now, hear this. God will help you get through today. Just today. That is all you have to do. You do not have to figure out next week. You do not have to solve a problem that has not arrived. You just have to trust Him with this one day in front of you.

And honestly? How relieving is that.

Leave it at His feet. And this time, resist the urge to pick it back up.

Much love and blessings,

Ramzi

Where This Meets Real Life:

Family

A lot of family worry is future worry. What if this happens, what about down the road. Bring your focus back to loving them well today and trust God with the tomorrows you cannot control.

Relationships

Anxiety about where a relationship is heading can rob you of actually enjoying it right now. Be present today. Let God handle what is around the corner.

Mental Health

Worry about the future is one of anxiety's favorite fuels. Practicing the discipline of staying in today is not just spiritual, it is one of the healthiest mental habits you can build.

Finances

Financial fear loves to live in the future. The what ifs and worst case scenarios. Take the next right step today and leave the rest at His feet. Borrowing tomorrow's financial worry helps nothing.

Physical Health

Carrying tomorrow's stress today takes a real toll on your body. The tension, the lost sleep, the exhaustion. Your body was built to handle one day at a time. Let it.

Closing thoughts…

Today's trouble is enough for today. Stop borrowing tomorrow's. Leave it at His feet.

…and now lets end in prayer!🙏

Lord, forgive me for carrying what You never asked me to carry. For piling tomorrow's worries on top of today's when You only gave me grace for right now. Help me leave my troubles at Your feet and actually walk away from them. Teach me to trust Your timing even when it does not match mine. And remind me that all I have to do is get through today, because You have already got tomorrow. Amen.
